This will be an interactive workshop will be interactive. Participants should bring the following two things:
- Two book ideas or an overview of a book-in-progress;
- A table-of-contents of one of one book idea, 10 to 12 chapters
We’ll discuss:
- What if somebody steals my idea? (and why you shouldn’t worry about it)
- Overview of the stats re: books published each year;
- What’s your competition?
- How to search Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Powell Books, and the Indie Bookstores to see if your book idea has already been done;
- How to tweak your idea to stand out from the rest;
- What about titles and subtitles?
- If there’s already a book on “your” topic, and it’s a best-seller, is that good or bad?
- Looking at your audience (obvious and unexpected audiences);
- Naming your niche realistically;
- Braining-storming your book idea and angle in depth (time permitting);
- Why you should start with a table-of-contents;
- How much research do you need to do first and what kind?
